WHAT WE DO
Supporting Binar Futures
Behind every ClearStory engagement is a young person we may never meet.
Binar Futures
As our email footers say, everyClearStory engagement empowers an Indigenous young person to shoot for the stars. That is not a line we chose lightly. We are proud to partner with Binar Futures, and the name itself carries the idea.
Binar is the Noongar word for meteor. The Dreamtime story tells us that when harsh times came to Earth, the Spirit Mother lifted her children high up in her arms where they would be safe as stars. When her children on Earth are in need of help, the Spirit Mother sends her star children home in the form of meteors.
What began in 2011 as one local basketball team of six Indigenous youths, supported by founder Adam Desmond, has grown into a movement of more than 5,000+ young people across the Perth metro area and surrounds. On Noongar Boodja, Binar has become far more than sport. It is a support system and an extended family, built on respect, resilience, equity, empowerment, connection and culture.
Their work spans sport, culture, youth leadership and youth development. They give young people a place that is unconditionally safe, positive role models, and genuine opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach. Every athlete is a reminder of what becomes possible with encouragement and support, in spite of real life challenges.
This is where ClearStory comes in. We direct our giving towards easing the financial hardship that can quietly keep a talented kid on the sidelines, from the weekly costs of playing to the bigger opportunities to travel, compete and represent. For a young person, the difference between watching and playing can shape their whole sense of what is possible.
When you work with ClearStory, you help a young person take the court, find their people, and shoot for the stars.
