WHAT WE DO

Process Advisory

Observation and advisory support for executive teams and boards navigating the relational and emotional dynamics that sit beneath strategic decision-making.

What it is.

Executive teams and boards are often extraordinarily capable at the operational and strategic dimensions of leadership. The people in the room are experienced, intelligent, and genuinely committed to good outcomes.

And yet some of the most consequential forces shaping those outcomes are rarely named.

Silent stories about what is possible. Concerns that have not been voiced. Undercurrents of tension or mistrust that shift the dynamic without anyone quite acknowledging them. Moods that settle over a team and narrow the range of what gets considered.

Process advisory is ClearStory’s offering for teams at the highest levels of organisational life, teams that would benefit not from another strategy session, but from skilled, independent observation and carefully designed conversational processes that surface what is actually in the room.

It is not facilitation for its own sake. It is purposeful support for teams who want to lead more consciously and whose collective blind spots are worth understanding.

Who it’s for.

Process advisory is suited to executive leadership teams sensing that something is limiting their effectiveness but struggling to name it.

  • Boards navigating complex dynamics, competing interests, or decisions that keep stalling.

  • Senior teams experiencing a shift in composition, context, or strategic direction that has unsettled the relational ground.

  • Organisations where formal governance is strong but the informal dynamics are quietly running a different agenda.

It is particularly valuable where cultural sensitivity matters, or where the team operates in an environment where candid internal reflection is genuinely difficult to achieve.

How it works.

Process advisory engagements are co-designed with the commissioning leader or organisation. What they include depends on the context, but typically involves:

01

Scoping and understanding

Travis works with the relevant decision-makers to understand the team's situation, what they are navigating, and what kind of support would be most useful. A real conversation about what is actually going on.

02

Observation

Where appropriate, Travis observes the team in action, in meetings, offsites, or key decision-making forums. He is not there to evaluate, but to see what the team may not be able to see from inside it.

03

Structured conversational processes

ClearStory designs and facilitates carefully scaffolded conversations that create the conditions for honest dialogue, including the ones that have not been happening. Every voice is heard, including those that have gone quiet.

04

Feedback and advisory

Travis shares what he has observed, clearly and without partisanship, with the kind of directness that is only useful when it is also trusted. Recommendations are practical and grounded in that team's real dynamics.

05

Ongoing support

For many teams this is the beginning of a sustained engagement: a relationship that continues as the team evolves, as new challenges emerge, or as specific issues need deeper attention.

What you walk away with.

A clearer picture of the dynamics actually shaping your team’s decisions and performance. Language and processes for the conversations your team needs to have and has not been having. Reduced influence of unspoken tensions, assumptions, and undercurrents on strategic direction.

A more conscious, cohesive team that leads with greater range and collective intelligence. Confidence that the relational and emotional dimensions of your work are being properly attended to.
